About The House of Blue Leaves:

The Pope is coming, and chaos reigns in this winning show from John Guare! Artie Shaughnessy, a native of Queens, desperately wants a change. He dreams of life in Hollywood with his girlfriend, Bunny Flingus, as a composer for the movies. The reality: a zoo (literally) at work, and another at home with his mentally unstable wife, Bananas. If he does not make a break soon, he fears, he will be "too old to be a young talent." To add to Artie's troubles, Bunny, an accomplished chef and wannabe social climber, refuses to cook for him until they are married; his son, AWOL from the army, is plotting to bomb the Pope; three frost-bitten nuns show up in search of a television; and a glamorous movie star drops by. Pandemonium reigns. This hilarious dark comedy, intended for mature audiences, is a roller-coaster of emotions built around a family who is consumed by becoming famous in any way they can. Eventually each is humiliated by their dreams, their loves, and their wants, proving that modem life may best be viewed in comic terms. Author John Guare (Six Degrees of Separation) won both the New York and the Los Angeles Drama Critics Awards and the Obie Award for Best American Play for The House of Blue Leaves published in 1968.
